Advising
Each student has at least two professional academic advisors while enrolled at UCSC: a college advisor or preceptor, who can assist with campus-wide requirements such as general education, academic progress, and time-to-degree policies, and a major advisor, who can advise on a specific program and its requirements. You can read more about the advising structure at UCSC on Undergraduate Advising’s website.
As a student in the Creative Technologies program, you will work with advisor Emily Spitz. Emily is your partner in identifying and pursuing paths to graduation that support your educational and post graduation plans. She is happy to connect with students interested in CT to discuss major declaration, major requirements, enrollment in CT courses, and more.
Contacting the CT advisor
If you have questions about the Creative Technologies major, please reach out to the advisor, Emily, at creative@ucsc.edu. Email is the most effective way to get advising support, and most questions can be answered this way. If your situation is more complex, Emily may suggest scheduling a Zoom meeting and will follow up to coordinate a time.
Please make it a priority to read all emails from your major advisor carefully. These messages often contain important information about major qualification deadlines, enrollment guidance, and other key updates.
Making an appointment
Advising appointments are held virtually via Zoom. You may sign up for an advising appointment via Navigate Slug Success. Appointments scheduled via Navigate Slug Success are 30 minutes long.
If none of the time slots work for you, please feel free to contact undergraduate advisor Emily Spitz via email at creative@ucsc.edu to schedule that way.

How to Prepare for Your Advising Appointment
To make the most of your advising session, please review the following tips:
- Use a computer with a webcam (not a phone). All Creative Technologies advising appointments are conducted via Zoom, as the program is fully online. Because academic advising often involves reviewing your individual academic plan and screen sharing, it’s important to attend your appointment using a computer with a functional webcam and microphone.
- Test your technology. Please ensure your webcam and microphone are working properly before the meeting. We encourage students to join on-camera, as it helps create a more engaged advising experience. However, we understand that this may not always be possible.
- Check your Degree Progress Report (DPR). Your DPR is available in your MyUCSC Portal and helps you track your progress toward university, general education, and major/minor requirements. Be sure to review it regularly. For help, see the guide on Accessing your DPR.
- Review your individual academic plan. Take a few minutes before your appointment to look over your academic plan. This will help you ask specific questions about enrollment, course sequencing, or any other concerns related to your degree progress.
- Come prepared with questions. Write down any questions or topics you’d like to cover during your session. This ensures you don’t forget anything important. If you think of additional questions after your appointment, you can always email us at creative@ucsc.edu.
