Student Equipment
Student Equipment
Creative Technologies maintains an inventory of equipment for long-term loan to students officially declared in the major and making normal progress toward graduation (e.g. following their individualized academic plan). Students must sign a Borrower’s Contract in order to check out equipment.
The purpose of the equipment check-out system is two-fold:
1) To allow longer-term borrowing of laptops/iPads than provided by the UCSC University Library, which is only 4 hours. A functional computer with webcam and microphone is required for participation in the CT program given that all courses are offered online, via Zoom.
2) To provide additional creative resources with which students can experiment in their art practice.
Students can check out up to 2 pieces of equipment at one time. Checking out more than 2 pieces of equipment at once is subject to approval; please email creative@ucsc.edu with your request and give a brief (paragraph-long) statement providing justification for the need.

Process
Students are expected to direct all inquiries regarding equipment to the CT advisor via email at creative@ucsc.edu. Equipment is physically checked out from the Digital Arts Research Center, Suite 302.
The CT Student Assistant (Darshini Binduraj) coordinates the physical checkout process. They are physically available in the DARC 302 suite 2 hours per week (exact hours change each quarter; students will be notified of their schedule each quarter).
Winter quarter hours: Mondays, 12-2pm
Students can request an appointment with the CT Student Assistant via this Google form to check out available equipment.
Borrower’s contract
Borrowers must agree to the Terms and Conditions within the Borrower’s Contract to borrow equipment. This will be emailed to you for signing after you request an appointment time.
Insurance
We strongly recommend that students obtain insurance that will cover Creative Technologies’s equipment while it is on loan to them. One option is to obtain insurance through CampusConnexions.
It is your responsibility to understand your insurance policy. This includes any insurance that you might choose to obtain through CampusConnexions. You can check the terms and conditions of any insurance policy with an agent or representative of the insurance company to make sure you are getting appropriate coverage for your needs. Insurance policies are available that cover both your personal property and property that is on loan to you, in your country, as well as while you are abroad (if applicable).
Police report
In the event of theft, vandalism or other criminal incident, you will need to file a police report. Some policies require evidence of forced entry. Never leave your equipment unattended in a vehicle or at any other time. Theft of equipment from vehicles occurs frequently, especially when equipment is visible within the vehicle.
